ภูเขาสูงและป่าไม้ที่อุดมสมบูรณ์ และวิถีชีวิตที่เรียบง่ายทำให้จังหวัดแม่อ่องสอนมีสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวมากมาย ทั้งโบราณสถาน โบราณวัตถุ ศิลปวัฒนธรรมประเพณี บ้านเรือน ที่อยู่อาศัย ตลอดจนการแต่งกายแบบ "ชาวไต" ที่มีเอกลักษณ์ ภาษาที่ใช้ และอาหารการกินของชาวพื้นเมือง สิ่งเหล่านี้นับเป็นเสน่ห์ดึงดูดนักท่องเที่ยวที่สำคัญ Maehongson, Thailand's northern border city, hiding itself in between the towering mountains with densely forested slopes, stretching to the Burmese border.The little town of Maehongson gives you something different from other cities in the North.Most habitants are Shan race, so they have their own cultural characteristics. Shans who live in the city and the hilltribe people who live in remote villages on mountain tops where elements of lifestyle have changed little in hundreds of years. The Shans' ancestors came from Shans region in Burma. The hilltribe people consist of Karen, Lisu, Mhong, Lahu, and Lua. Both the Shans and the hilltribemen have their own distinctive cultures. They have their own lilting dialect, their own architectural lifestyles, their own customs and traditions, and their own delicious cuisine.

วัดพระธาตุดอยกองมู
นับเป็นวัดที่มีความสำคัญมากที่สุดวัดหนึ่งในจังหวัด เป็นศูนย์รวมศรัทธาของชาวเมือง กล่าวกันว่าใครที่มาแม่ฮ่องสอนแล้วไม่ได้ไปที่นี่ถือว่ายังไม่มาถึง ทั้งนี้เดิมชื่อวัดปลายดอย ตั้งอยู่บนยอดดอยกองมู พระธาตุเจดีย์ของวัดนี้สร้างขึ้นเป็นแห่งแรกในแม่ฮ่องสอน ประกอบด้วยพระเจดีย์ 2 องค์ ต่อมาจึงเปลี่ยนชื่อเป็นวัดพระธาตุดอยกองมูตามนามพระธาตุ นอกจากเป็นศาสนสถานสำคัญแล้วยังเป็นจุดชมวิวเมืองของแม่ฮ่องสอนด้วย เพราะสามารถที่จะเห็นภูมิประเทศของเมืองแม่ฮ่องสอน และเทือกเขาถนนธงชัยสลบซับซ้อนสุดลูกหูลูกตา

Phrathat Doi Gongmoo Temple
The hilltop temple affords a wonderful view of the city and surrounding mountains and valley, constructed by Phaya Singhanatrach, the first king fo Mea Hong Son, built high up on the mountainside on the west side of the town.There are some interesting examples of religious architecture, such as the two Mon style cement chedis that stand out dramatically. All around the temple are magnificent views that offer a panoramic perspective of the town and surrounding countryside. There is a 1.6 kms long asphalt road from the town up to the temple.

วัดจองคำ และวัดจองกลาง

วัดจองคำและวัดจองกลางเปรียบเสมือนวัดแฝด ด้วยตั้งอยู่ในกำแพงเดียวกัน เมื่อมองจากด้านหน้าวัดจองคำจะอยู่ทางด้านซ้ายมือ ส่วนวัดจองกลางจะอยู่ทางด้านขวามือ วัดจองคำและวัดจองกลางตั้งอยู่กลางเมืองแม่ฮ่องสอน และเป็นเสมือนสัญลักษณ์ทางวัฒนธรรมของเมืองไทใหญ่แห่งนี้ เพราะวัดทั้งสองสร้างขึ้นโดยช่างชาวไทใหญ่เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2340 เป็นศิลปะแบบไทใหญ่ที่แปลกตา และงดงามมาก โดยวัดจองคำมีพระประธานขนาดใหญ่เรียกว่า 'หลวงพ่อโต' มีขนาดหน้าตักกว้างถึง 4.85 ม. และที่วัดจองกลางมีพระพุทธสิหิงค์จำลองปิดทองเหลืองอร่ามทั้งองค์

Jong Kham and Jong Klang Temples

Jong Kham and Jong Klang temples are situated on Jong Kham Lake and are oldest temples in Maehongson. There are interesting examples of ancient art inside, such as the collection of Burmese style wooden carved dolls, the Burmese style glass paintings and the Mon style cement chedis. Many visitors take photographs of the temple and the lake.

งานปอยส่างลอง (บวชลูกแก้ว)

ปอยส่างลองหรือประเพณีบรรพชาสามเณรตามแบบไทใหญ่ เป็นงานสำคัญของชาวไทใหญ่ เพื่อให้บุตรหลานได้มีโอกาสศึกษาพระธรรมคำสั่งสอน ของพระพุทธเจ้า และมีความเชื่อว่าได้กุศลแรกกว่าการอุปสมบทพระภิกษุ การจัดงานจะมีสามวัน วันแรกนำบรรดาเด็กชายมาเข้าพิธีโกนแต่ไม่โกนคิ้ว (พระพม่าไม่โกนคิ้ว) แต่งหน้าทาปาก สวมเสื้อผ้าอาภรณ์สวยงาม และโผกผ้าแบบพม่า ประดับด้วยมวยผมของบรรพบุรุษที่เก็บรักษาไว้ แล้วตกแต่งด้วยดอกไม้ เสร็จแล้วนำเด็กน้อยซึ่งตอนนี้เรียกว่า "ส่างลอย" ไปขอขมา และรับศีลรับพรตามบ้านญาติผู้ใหญ่ที่นับถือ วันที่ 2 มีการแห่ส่างลองกับขบวนเครื่องไทยทานไปตามถนนสายต่าง ๆ จะมีผู้มาร่วมขบวนมากมาย โดยให้ส่างลองขี่ม้า หรือถ้าไม่มีม้าก็จะขี่คอคน ซึ่งเรียกว่า "พี่เลี้ยง" หรือ "ตะแปส่างลอง" วันที่ 3 จะแห่ส่างลองไปตามถนนอีกครั้ง จากนั้นก็ไปรวมกันที่วัดเพื่อทำพิธีบวช

Poi Sang long Procression

This is in fact the celebartiion of novice ordination ceremony of Thai Yai people regarded as a highly meritoues occasion. Traditionally, the candi-date-novice, his head is cleanly and wrapped with head-cloth in the Burmese style,will don a prince-like garement and put on valuable ornaments, and ride a horse or be carried over the shouldr of a man to the shirne. Then he will visit abbots of various Wat to beg for forgiveness. On the ordination eve, a proces-sion of offerings will be paraded through the where the ordination takes place the following day. It is usually held during March-April. Today this colourful procession has become a major tourist attaction in Mae Hong Song.

วนอุทยานถ้ำปลา
ถ้ำปลาตั้งอยู่บริเวณเชิงเขา อยู่ที่บ้านห้วยผา ต.ห้วยผา ห่างจากตัวเมืองไปทางทิศเหนือประมาณ 17 กม. มีลักษณะเป็นธารน้ำที่ไหลมาจากถ้ำใต้ภูเขาตลอดเวลา ด้านหน้าเป็นวังน้ำ มีปลาพลวง (อาจเรียกว่า ปลามุง, ปลาคัง) ตัวโตแหวกว่ายอยู่มากมาย เป็นที่อัศจรรย์แก่ผู้พบเห็นว่าเหตุใดปลาเหล่านี้จึงมารวมกันอยู่ที่หน้าถ้ำ ถ้ำปลาอยู่ในความดูแลของวนอุทยานถ้ำปลา บริเวณอุทยานฯหนาแน่นไปด้วยต้นไม้ และได้ปรับปรุงให้เป็นแหล่งท่องเที่ยว มีการตกแต่งสถานที่ให้เหมาะสมแก่การพักผ่อน สร้างความรื่นรมย์แก่ผู้มาเยือน

Fish cave forest park or Thumpla

The Fish Cave is located near the village of Huay Pha, about 17 kms from Maehongson (Highway 1095), at the foot of the mountains. At the mouth of the cave natural springs from beneath the mountain create a pool in which many large fish live. There are many different kinds of trees and plants around the cave in the area of the national park and a small river with such clear water that you can see the sand at the bottom. The cool air and natural setting make it a perfect place to discover the wonders of nature, such as the tiny snails and the wide variety of ferns.

ถ้ำแก้วโกมล

ความแวววาวของผลิกแร่แคลไซต์ สีขาวใสที่เคลือบฉาบผนังภายในถ้ำแก้วโกมล หรือที่เรียกกันว่าถ้ำน้ำแข็ง ถูกค้นพบโดยบังเอิญเมื่อวิศวกรสำรวจเหมืองแร่ของสำนักงานทรัพยากรธรณีแม่ฮ่องสอน ขุดเจาะอุโมงค์เข้าไปตามสายแร่ ลักษณะถ้ำมีผนังแวววาว ยิ่งยามต้องแสงไฟผลึกแร่ดูงดงามดั่งเกล็ดน้ำแข็ง ถ้ำเช่นนี้พบได้เพียง 3 แห่งในโลก คือประเทศออสเตรเลีย ประเทศจีน และประเทศไทย

Kaew Komol Cave

Kaew Komol Cave in Mae Hong Son has reopened after a three-month closure. The cave has spectacular natural calcite crystals. The formations come in all shapes imaginable ranging from snow flakes and mushrooms to vegetables. The cave is fitted with lighting. It has a walkway leading to five chambers that visitors can explore. The cave is part of Khao Doi Tham, five kilometres off Highway 108 that connects Mae La Noi district.

ถ้ำน้ำลอด

อยู่ที่ตำบลถ้ำลอด ห่างจากตัวเมืองแม่ฮ่องสอนประมาณ 86 กม. เป็นแหล่งโบราณคดีที่สำคัญ มีสถานที่น่าวนใจคือ 'ถ้ำลอด' ซึ่งมีลำห้วยชื่อน้ำลางไหลลอดภูเขาไปอีกด้านหนึ่ง ทำให้เกิดเป็นถ้ำที่มีหินงอกหินย้อยสวยงาม และพบเครื่องมือเครื่องใช้โบราณ อายุประมาณ 2000 ปี ถ้านี้มีความยาวประมาณ 1 กม. แบ่งเป็น 3 ห้อง คือ 'ถ้ำเสาหินหลวง' 'ถ้ำตุ๊กตา' และถ้ำสุดท้ายที่มีชื่อเสียงคือ 'ถ้ำผีแมน' นอกจากหินงอกหินย้อยที่สวยงามแล้วเศษภาชนะดินเผา ซีกฟัน กระดูกมนุษย์ เมล็ดพืช เครื่องมือหิน รวมทั้ง 'โลงผีแมน' มีลักษณะเป็นท่อนไม้ส่วนกลางเป็นร่องคล้ายเรือ มีขนาดเล็กและใหญ่ถูกวางอยู่บนคานเสา 4 - 6 ต้นตั้งกับพื้นถ้ำ ที่เจาะเป็นช่องเพื่อสอดคานไว้พาดโลงผีแมน

Lod Cave

Lod Forest Park or Lod Cave some 60 kilometers from Mae Hong Son town, a road to the left runs further 8 kilometers. It is place where antiques and prehistoric remains were foung. This huge cave is beauitflly decorated with colourful stalagmites and stalactites.The tourist visiting hours is from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily .It took about 1-2 hours to cover the cave.

น้ำตกผาเสื่อ

น้ำตกแห่งนี้ อยู่ในเขตตำบลหมอกจำแป่ จากตัวเมืองไปตามทางขึ้นสู่พระตำหนักปางตอง ไหลมาจากน้ำตกแม่สะงาในเขตพม่า อยู่ในความดูแลของวนอุทยานแห่งชาติ ปกคลุมด้วยไม้ใหญ่ให้ความร่มรื่นเป็นอย่างดี มีน้ำตกทั้งหมด 6 ชั้น ชั้นที่คนนิยมที่สุด คือ ผาเสื่อ ซึ่งมีน้ำตกลงกระทบแผ่นหินกระเด็นเป็นฝอย สองข้างมีแผ่นหินลักษณะคล้ายเสื่อปูลาดอยู่เป็นจำนวนมาก การเดินทางสะดวกเป็นทางลาดยางตลอด

Pha sua waterfall

Pha Sua waterfall is located in Jum Bae district, 26 kms from Maehongson, along the road to Pai. This waterfall flows from the Mae Sa-nga River in Burma. There are six levels, called Mae Sa-nga waterfall, Pha Yao waterfall, Pha Lad waterfall, Pha Sua waterfall, Pha Dang waterfall and Pha Hom waterfall. Pha Sua waterfall has interesting rock formations, and water flows all year round making it a perfect place to visit.

บ้านน้ำเพียงดิน

อยู่ในเขตตำบลผาบ่อง เป็นสถานที่ที่นักท่องเที่ยวนิยมล่องเรือตามลำน้ำปาย ผ่านบ้านห้วยเดื่อไปจนถึงบ้านน้ำเพียงดินโดยเรือหางยาว ใช้เวลาประมาณ 1 ชั่วโมง ตลอดเส้นทางที่ล่องเรือไปตามลำน้ำจะผ่านระลอกน้ำที่ลดระดับลดหลั่นกันไปคล้ายธารน้ำตกนับเป็นทัศนียภาพที่งดงามแปลกตา

Ban Nam Phiang Din

Ban Nam Phiang Din is in Tambon Pha Bong of 1 hour long motorboat trip along Pai River Ban Huai Dua, a scenic route with marvellous terraced cataracts.
